86103 Andre Chapelon

One of the three class 86`s which were fitted with flexicoil springs and class 87 bogies. This model has been fitted with bogies which have been built by 'cut and shut' method, utilising Hornby class 86 and 90 bogies. It was difficult to achieve the desired result, but definitely worth the effort. In earlier BR days, this loco (along with another member of the class) was fitted with a large camera box mounted on the roof for pantograph performance monitoring. The model of course features this including the screen wiper! The orange sockets were hand-made when I was unable to obtain some etched parts. They were only makeshift, but have so far lasted several years. The loco is due for a full frontal detailing session one of these days...

Scheduled for major cosmetic makeover May/June 2006
